As the School Counselor and Anti-Bullying Specialist at Lakeside Middle School my door is always open to assist students with any obstacles they are facing. When they enter Lakeside in sixth grade, I meet with every student in small groups to introduce myself and ensure that they understand the role of a school counselor. I am always available to help each student whether it be a school issue (academic or peer), personal problem, or just a bad day. I am readily available to speak with the parents or guardians of our students if they have any questions or concerns. I frequently attend each grade levels team meetings, serve on the I & RS committee as the chair coordinator, and work closely with the CST to advocate for the students. Collaboratively, we all work together to ensure that all of our students have an enjoyable and successfull time at Lakeside.
Throughout the year, I can also be found in the classrooms of each grade level teaching lessons on character education. Activities during Red Ribbon Week, the Week of Respect, and School Violence Prevention Week also allow me extra time with the students. Throughout these weeks I discuss sensitive and serious issues with the students including: addiction, the disease concept, violence/abuse, and tolerance while also producing fun, knowledgeable activities to get students involved.
I look forward to getting to know and working with each student at Lakeside Middle School helping them to navigate throughout the difficult terrain of their adolescent years.
