The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment works with the Supervisor of Elementary Education and members of the District Leadership Team to oversee the total educational experience each child receives as a student in Pompton Lakes. Every content area follows curricula approved by the Pompton Lakes Board of Education and aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Following a yearly professional development plan, the district also offers professional learning opportunities to the entire staff to provide teachers and para-professionals with the latest evidence-based instructional strategies that will hopefully provide the students with a well-rounded educational experience. Additionally, the District LeadershipTeam ensures that the curriculum and instructional strategies used in classrooms not only provide students with the content and skills necessary to meet grade-level benchmarks, but they also serve as a model for the necessary expertise and knowledge needed for college and career readiness.
To aid in the communication between the school and parents/guardians, this office also maintains the web-based Parent Portal. The Parent Portal provides real-time information on students’ tests, quizzes, and classroom assignments. Parents or guardians with children in grades K-12 can presently use this site to track the academic progress of their children and communicate with teachers. Parents with children in grades K-5 will need to click on the Standards tab to view their child's progress.
Furthermore, parents/guardians are encouraged to connect with their child’s teachers to learn more about Google Classroom. As a 1:1 district in grades K-12, Google Classroom is the district’s choice web service to make it easier for all students with a school-provided Google Account and their teachers to connect both inside and outside of the classroom.
